during the war and these were placed in the fields.

Antarctica Song
(In tune to “Love Story”)
By Ariel
We were both cold when I first saw you.
I close my eyes and the flash back starts, I’m standing there.
In a blizzard in Antarctic air.
See the lights, see the Aurora Australis.
See you make your way through the snow and say hello.
Little did I know…
That you were a penguin, you were an Adelie penguin and my daddy said, “Stay away from Antarctica.”
And I was freezing on an ice berg.
Begging you to make a snow man.
And I said, “Adelie take me to Australasia, far from snow.
I’ll be waiting on an ice breaker to go.
You’ll be frozen, soon to be warmed up.
It’s migrating to the north, penguin just say ‘squawk!’”
So I sneak out in the snowdrift to see you.
We keep quiet ‘cause we’re cold if they knew, so close your eyes.
Escape those flippers for a little while.
Oh oh!
‘Cause you were a penguin.
I was a leopard seal.
And my daddy said, “Stay away from Antarctica.”
But you were made up of stalagmites, I was begging you to make a snow man.
And I said, “Adelie take me to Australasia, far from snow.
I’ll be waiting on an icebreaker to go.
You’ll be frozen soon to be warmed up.
It’s migrating to the north, penguin just say ‘squawk!’
Adelie save me.
They’re try’n to tell me to eat you.
This drift is difficult, but it is real.
Don’t be afraid, we’ll make it out of this snow.
It’s migrating to the north, penguin just say ‘squawk!’”
I got tired of waiting, wondering if you had frozen on the way.
My temperature was lowering.
When I met you on the coastal shores.
And I said, “Adelie take me to Australasia, far from snow.
I’ve been waiting for you but you never come.
Have my toes fallen off?
I don’t know what to think,” He dived in the sea and shouted to me, “Come with me leopard seal, you’ll never eat skuas again.
These fish smell and that’s all I really know.
I talked to your sailors, let’s go to Australasia, it’s migrating to the north, seal just say ‘arff!’”
‘Cause we were both cold when I first saw you.
Television is a Bad Influence on Children
Stephanie
Is television a bad influence on children? This topic is frequently discussed by parents and kids. There are a number of points that are going around, so I think this is an important matter to discuss.
Midday television is full of violence, murder and other adult scenes. When kids sit down to eat their lunch in front of the television, there is nothing else to choose from. Kids sit down and just watch what comes on the screen. When they become older they think that it is alright to do what they saw on television. This can get them in a lot of trouble.
On average, kids aged between eight to eighteen watch three to six hours of television a day. Because of this, two-thirds of the children turn out to be overweight or obese. This may be one of the possibilities of why Australia is now the most overweight country in the world, up to this day.
On the other hand the television has some benefits. It shows many informative programs from places like the BBC and Channel 21(ABC2). Some school projects given by the school need kids to watch and learn from these programs. Although not all of these are as informative as others, all the information could blow your mind.
Current affairs programs aren’t only good for adults. They are also good for kids. At Artarmon Primary School in Class 6L, one of their gold contracts needs the kids to find the current price of gold. This is why these shows are good for kids.
This is an open ended argument and it is up to the parents to decide. I believe that children should be able to watch three hours of television each day, as long as it is appropriate for their age.
Gold
I shine like the sun in the blazing afternoon,
My beauty is as rare as my presence,
Thieves turn me from a death mask to a spoon,
And I am used from the earth to the heavens.
I begin with a ‘g’ and end with a ‘d’,
Everyone suffers to own me,
And nobody knows that I’m as beautiful,
As I seem to be.
I am very old,
To the times of the kings,
I am good at being sold,
And you guessed it!
I am gold!

A Poem of Senses
As we drove up, birds took flight
The fair, I saw, was full of light.
People were swarming everywhere
Queues were dotted here and there.
The wind whipped my hair
And laughter filled the air.
Screams of joy and delight
Echoed in the winter’s night.
Sweet smelling candy tickled my nose
That wonderful smell filled me down to my toes.
The cooking hot dogs smelt so yummy
Oh, how it rumbled in my tummy.
The hard, metal seatbelt of the rollercoaster ride
Felt harsh and cold rubbing on my side.
Finally I felt the firm ground beneath me
But I wobbled and swayed unsteadily.
As I tasted that hot dog my mother gave me
I chewed it and smiled appreciatively.
The tangy tomato sauce coated my tongue,
As I said to myself, ‘I love being young!’
